The Global Product Manager – Room Air conditioner works in Johnson Controls – Hitachi Air Conditioning (JCH) Global Product Management team. Global Product Management team is in charge of defining the product strategy for all JCH product lines and to deliver the product roadmap in order to reach JCH growth objectives.

The Global Product Manager is accountable for establishing a leadership position for JCH by defining products that JCH will offer across its global markets (China, Taiwan, South East Asia, Europe, India …)

Principl Duties
  1. Market Analysis:
    • Collaborate with Business Strategy Division to analyze markets and trends (Market demands, regulations, channels) in order to detect the best growth opportunities for JCH.
    • Collect Voice of Customer by collaborating with our regional Product Portfolio Managers to ensure our offering fits with customer, sales and channel requirements.
    • Carry out market research.
    • Collect and consolidate technical requirements such as performance, controls, refrigerant and certifications.
    • Analyze competitors’ offering.
  2. Product Strategy:
    • Define JCH RAC product strategy to achieve growth and profitability targets.
    • Envision JCH RAC positioning. Ensure product innovation and differentiation.
    • Drive Gaps analysis by regional market and product tier type
    • Determine product features that JCH should have based on the PALS
    • Work closely with R & D team to develop appropriate technology roadmap
  3. Product Roadmap:
    • Follow our Global Product Planning Process, include best opportunities in our product development plan.
    • Conduct quantitative and financial business analysis to develop business cases, then present recommendations to senior management and gain approval for product plan
    • Engage with manufacturing and other functional leaders to define the best manufacturing site. Engage in costing analysis.
  4. Product Development:
    • Deliver Product Vision summarizing features, specification, cost and time to market, to Engineering team and Project Management team in order to kick off product development. Ensure targets and market requirements are fully understood by the development team.
    • Participate in the product development through Gate reviews of our Product Development Process (PDP). Always ensure that expectations of customers and channels will be satisfied.
  5. Sales Enablement:
    • Work with Channel and Product Marketing team to define the needs in terms of sales support tools.
    • Train our regional portfolio manager on the new products, participate to elaborate the material sales relevant material with support of Engineering team and marketing team.
    • Participate to product launch, collect feedback of customers and channel during field events.
    • Follow new product introduction performances.
  6. Costing:
    • Drive target cost setting for product development projects
    • Maintain in collaboration with manufacturing facilities, standard cost based on commodity guidance, product design /development and VAVE projects
    • Kick off benchmarking projects in order to maintain product competitiveness
  7. Lifecycle Management
    • Collaborate with finance to Review and understand overall portfolio performance.
    • Collaborate with Sales to review and understand Market Share and Channel performance.
    • Rationalize the offerings.
    • Propose products improvement. Detect cost down needs on existing range to meet profitability expectations.
    • Define the right timing for phase out of products that don’t meet the financial targets or market expectations
Requirements
  • Ideally about 10 -12 years of Working experience.
  • Knowledge about RAC and PAC products.
  • A knowledge of channels, sales and pricing and other customer facing roles is a must and added advantage
  • Willing to travel and spend time (20% to 30%) in the market to map the competition as well as understand the ground realities of the market
  • Demonstrate leadership, ability to communicate with impact and strategic thinking.
  • Ability to go beyond the obvious and create a larger vision
  • Demonstrate ability to navigate and build relationship in large matrix organization, across multiple cultures, multiple locations, and diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Fluent English. Other languages are a plus (Japanese especially).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power point).
  • Position located in Tokyo (Takeshiba).
